Dr. Rebecca Sosa came to UCLA in 2015 after receiving her PhD from the University of Texas in San Antonio in cellular immunology, where she became interested in the crosstalk between innate and adaptive immune responses in chronic subclinical inflammatory disease states. Her postdoctoral research training in the laboratory of Dr. Elaine Reed has been focused on the critical health care concern regarding ischemia-reperfusion injury in patients undergoing solid organ transplantation. During this time she has further developed her technology in analyzing three-dimensional cellular and molecular interactions within tissue samples towards the investigation of major immune mediators of allograft injury. In July 2019 she began a clinical fellowship in immunogenetics at UCLA towards the goal of becoming a board certified Director of an Immunogenetics and Histocompatibility laboratory. She has continued her passion for patient-oriented research and her current efforts are focused on mechanisms of metabolic syndrome and NASH that complicate immune-mediated injury during transplantation, as well as uncovering the underlying disparities experienced by females and Hispanics in transplantation injury and outcomes.
